Langholm Academy Crowned Annual Schools Competition Winner

Dumfries & Galloway College hosted their Annual Schools Competition on Friday 14th May. The competition once again was extremely popular with the regions' secondary schools. The day was a great success with ten schools battling it out to be crowned the winner of the Dumfries & Galloway College Annual Schools Competition 2010 and claiming the coveted School Trophy.
Each school was invited to enter one team for each of the ten categories. The competition was aimed at S3 pupils with the intention of providing a fun taster session of the various programme areas within the College -seasoned with a competitive flavour. Over 130 pupils turned up on the day with support from a number of their teaching staff.
Events included: The Beauty Oscars - the theme for this event was chosen by the pupils and had to include make-up, hair and clothing to match. Budding detectives were encouraged to find out ‘Who Stole the Jelly Babies’ , whilst entrepreneurs were asked to compete in the 'Dragons Den'. Other events included: Front Page Magazine, Construction Challenges, Digital Photography, Wiring a Household Circuit and Paper Hanging.
The day ran smoothly and the pupils worked hard and once again the level of work was extremely high. The judges had a tough time choosing a winner. All teams gathered together in the Sports Hall at the end of the day to hear the results and claim their prizes from The Principal, Tony Jakimciw. The members of each events winning team were presented with a gift voucher.The total points scored by each school throughout the day determined the overal competition placings. Langholm Academy took the first position and claimed the coveted School Tropy along with a cheque for £100.Trophies were also presented to 2nd place – Dalbeattie High School and 3rd place went to Lockerbie Academy.
Well done to all pupils and schools for making the Annual Schools Competition another successful event. The College staff look forward to offering the challenge again next year.
