A student at Dumfries & Galloway College has beaten off stiff competition to have her design featured on a Tesco ‘Bag for Life’.

Samantha Sangster from Lockerbie, currently studying an HND in Visual Communication, has won a national competition to design a Scottish version of the supermarket’s reusable plastic bags.

Sam’s modern design features six brightly coloured sporran’s and is sure to become one of this season’s ‘must-have’ accessories.

Lynne Roxburgh, Local Marketing Manger for Tesco in Scotland said: “We received hundreds of entries but Sam’s design really stood out, it met the brief perfectly and we believe she’s created a unique design that will appeal to all our Scottish customers, and ultimately encourage the re-use of plastic bags.”

Ricky Nolan Programme Manager for Creative Industries at Dumfries and Galloway College said: "The College is very proud of Sam's achievement in winning this prestigious competition. Sam has excelled with highly individual solutions to a number of assignments and we're particularly pleased that the Tesco brief afforded opportunities to promote environmental issues."

Sam was presented with her prize by Sarah Mackie, Tesco Category Manager for Local UK at a special ceremony at this year’s Royal Highland Show which marked the launch on the new carrier bags. Sam was also presented with a framed image of her design and £250 of Tesco Gift Vouchers.

Sam, who works part-time in Tesco Lockerbie added: I’m absolutely delighted with how the design has turned out and can’t wait to see them in store”.

The Scottish Tesco ‘Bag for Life’ will be available in selected stores across the country from next week.
