Scrappy Races
Posted on Friday, 7 October, 2005

Students from Dumfries & Galloway Colleges Stranraer Campus took a trip to Galloway Forest Park near New Galloway on 27 September. The Skillstart Access 3 group visited the forest to watch the filming for the Scrappy Races Rally - an offshoot of Scrapheap Challenge - scheduled to be shown on television in March 2006.

The students were delighted to see presenter Robert Llewellyn and co-presenter Lisa Rodgers as well as the teams that were taking part in the event which included the Staffordshire Bulls, Rally Dragons, Maximus and the Chainsaw Clan. The rally was divided into five stages - Forest, Sand, Moorland, Hill and Water. Each stage presented a different engineering challenge to the teams and they had just 10 hours to modify their vehicles to undertake it! The student group were encouraged to take part by helping the crews to move their equipment and to cheer on the teams.
