This course gives you the opportunity to learn the foundation skills required for a career in the construction industry. It is designed for someone who is working as a trainee/apprentice or has joined a CITB approved scheme. It consists of a range of practical and theoretical units and will lead to a nationally recognised qualification.
This is a qualification designed to prove that the learner has met the standards of work demanded by his/her chosen trade. The course is delivered by means of a nationally devised Training and Assessment Programme (TAP) and by completing a portfolio of evidence completed in your workplace.
You must be able to meet the following criteria; secure employment as a Modern Apprentice in your chosen craft and be able to attend College for approximately 150 days for the first two years of your four-year apprenticeship.
You should be physically fit, able to work in different environments and good at working with your hands.
Good literacy and drawing skills are an advantage.
Information and Interview Session Requirements
The course is delivered in an integrated holistic manner using a series of ‘Tasks’ and ‘Tests’. As well as the subject specific content there are core units including Construction Drawing, Construction Materials, Building Craft Science, Construction Studies.
The on-site work experience (SVQ) will require the student to record the types of work undertaken on site, which will be entered into a portfolio of evidence
Integrated throughout the course are the core skills required by employers: Communications, Numeracy, ICT, Working with Others and Problem Solving.
