Introduction
Animation is a versatile marketing and communication tool. It can be used for a variety of purposes and instantly tells the viewer so much about your business.
Animation appeals to people of all ages and backgrounds and is an amazing and engaging way to communicate facts and figures; tell your story, who you are, what you do and why you matter; and show the human side of your organisation.
New statistics on marketing in 2019 identified that 83% of marketers believe that 'moving image marketing' is growing significantly in importance, and that 53% of customers engage with a brand after watching a video on social media. People love visual content and can process visuals 60,000 times faster than text, animation in particular grabs the customers attention in less than 1/10th of a second!
HOW THIS COURSE CAN HELP YOU AND YOUR BUSINESS
Through this course you will learn:
- The basic principles of animation
- Simple animation techniques in a 2D work space using Adobe Animate
- Simple animation/motion graphics techniques in a 3D work spaces using Adobe After Effects.You will then produce a series of simple short animations working to creative briefs with the scope to create something relating to your business. In the final stage of the course you have the option to develop your skills in Adobe Animate or Adobe After Effects, or, you may wish to explore some traditional animation techniques such as cut out or stop-motion.
Course Lecturer: Penny Humphreys
Penny has many years of experience in teaching animation. With external training, including the ‘Aardman Lecturer Development Programme’ and ongoing CPD, previous experience of moving image has been extended to include a range of current industry software and the launch and development of the Dumfries Student Film Festival to promote student talent and build connections between education and industry.

ONLINE COURSE DELIVERY: Tuesdays 11th January - 14th June 13:30 – 15:30 (excluding Easter Break):
This course will be delivered by short, weekly, online Microsoft TEAMS sessions, introducing new topics and study activities for you to continue as Directed Study Activities. After each session your tutor is available until 16:30 for online support via TEAMS Chat and Calls.
