Hospitality HNC @ SCQF Level 7


This course provides you with a valuable qualification for employment in an exciting, vibrant and ever-changing industry.Hospitality is a growth sector of industry both locally and internationally. There are many varied opportunities for students after completing their HNC in hotels, restaurants, bars, clubs, contract catering and events. You may want to continue with your studies and the HNC allows you to progressto HND Hospitality Management.




Full Time Attendance 2 or 3 days per week. 1 year (36 weeks). Additional hours for work experience and attendance in the evening may be required.

Entry Requirements

  • Two Highers at Grade C or above; OR
  • National Qualification at SCQF level 6 in Hospitality; OR
  • Other equivalent qualifications or experience

During the information and interview session, we will ensure the entry requirements and your aspirations and career plan are appropriate for the course and the level of course you have applied for. It is therefore important that you prepare well for this.

During your interview, you will be expected to provide positive responses to questions relating to your course choice, your future career and your previous experiences in hospitality.

Units are delivered with a mix of practical and theoretical elements and cover the following areas:

  • Food and Beverage Service.
  • Hospitality Supervision.
  • Alcoholic Beverages.
  • Food Production Processes.
  • Food Hygiene (REHIS Intermediate).
  • Front Office Procedures.
  • Hospitality Financial and Control Systems.
  • Hospitality Industry.
  • Hospitality Graded unit.

Progression on to HND Hospitality Management (SCQF level 8)

Career Prospects

This course prepares you for a careerat anoperational or supervisory level in the hospitality department of a hotel, a restaurant or bar, or directly into a graduate training scheme with larger organisations. We work with key representatives from industry to offer graduate training positions following the successful completion of the HNC.
