Sport and Recreation (QoS FC) SFW @ SCQF Level 5


This course will be based at Queen of the South Football Club. This is an exciting new course which will allow you to achieve a National 5 qualification whilst gaining industry skills and experience. You will gain practical experience, learn and understand the inner operations of football club and what working in such a setting involves. You will see how the club engages with the community, get involved in the behind-the-scenes facilities and have a chance to explore the wide-reaching requirements and opportunities.  


The course will help you gain confidence through a range of practical and theory led activities, giving you important skill for your future and employment.

A PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) check must be successfully completed as part of this course, you will be required to pay for this. 


Duration: 12 Weeks 

Dates: WB 14th March-WB 13th June.  




You will need to be fully committed to be considered for this course. You will be partaking in activities for up to 36hours per week which includes 9 hours of taught delivery.

Course Content

  • Assist with a Component of Activity Sessions
  • Employment Opportunities in the Sport and Recreation Industry
  • Assist with Fitness Programming
  • Assist with Daily Centre Duties


The course will consist of 9 hours of taught delivery through the week and you will be expected to take part in a range of vocational activity. The programme will not follow a normal college timetable, you will be expected to participate in a range of activities that take place at the club, these will include, but are not limited to; assisting at the breakfast club, working with the community, helping organise events, working as part of Match Day staffing, coaching and planning sessions.


The course will lead to a range of experience and a National 5 Skills for Work Sport and Recreation worth 4 credits.


Assessments will be practical and written.


This course can be used as a stepping stone to study a full time Sports and Fitness programme at DGC or to progress into employment.
