Introduction

Skills for Work: Sport and Recreation is an introductory qualification. It develops the skills, knowledge and attitudes needed for work in the industry.

Information and Interview Session Requirements

Once we have received your application you may be asked to attend an informal information and interview session. This may be virtual either through TEAMS or by phone but remember to tell us all about yourself in your personal statement!

This is a key aspect of the application process. You must confirm your attendance should you be offered an appointment. 

During the information and interview session, we will ensure the entry requirements and your aspirations and career plan are appropriate for the course and the level of course you have applied for. It is therefore important that you prepare well for this.

Course Content

Candidates will learn about:

  • assisting with planning, setting up and delivering activity sessions
  • assisting with setting up, dismantling and checking equipment and resources
  • assisting with accident and emergency procedures
  • dealing effectively and courteously with clients, staff and others
  • helping to plan and review a personal training programme
  • establishing good practice in identifying and reviewing personal goals
  • sourcing information about career pathways
  • identifying and reviewing skills and experiences

Assessments

Assessment will be carried out throughout the year. Learners will complete a portfolio of evidence.

Progression

Upon completion you can progress to a range of Sport & Fitness courses at Dumfries & Galloway College.  It may also enable you to progress onto Higher PE at your school.
