Adult Returners

It is never too late to learn and at Dumfries and Galloway College we are particularly keen to welcome applications from adult returners. We wish to actively encourage adults to attend on a full time or part time basis, or as an Open Learning student. We have the facilities, courses and support to suit your particular needs. For some, returning to study at College can be a daunting prospect, so special introductory courses are available to help those returning to study to feel more comfortable. Subjects covered include:

  • Confidence building
  • Study techniques
  • Introduction to computers
  • Communication skills
  • Basic numeracy and literacy

Visit our Adult Returners page for further information.

Schools

Our Schools liaison activities start at primary school level when we are involved with a variety of projects both in schools and in College. This extends through to school leaving age. We appreciate that young people coming towards the end of their school life are faced with difficult decisions. It’s a major threshold they have to cross and probably the first important decision they will make as they develop into young adults. As part of our school liaison service, Dumfries and Galloway College provides impartial information and advice on post 16+ and Higher Education College opportunities together with career information. We do this by working closely with guidance teaching staff and attending various school events aimed at parents/guardians and pupils. We also hold our own information events that are promoted in every school.

Our broad services and activities include:

  • Visiting schools across the region
  • Presentations on College provision
  • Arranging subject specialist talks
  • Attending school careers events
  • Attending parent evenings
  • Arranging relevant tours of the College campus sites at Dumfries and Stranaer
  • Organising College programme ‘taster sessions’ - this includes our very popular ‘Schools Competition’ in which S3 pupils take part in a number of events taking place in all programme areas
  • Keeping schools up-to-date about general College news and events

We work in partnership with:

  • HE institutions on the Crichton Campus
  • Skills Development Scotland (SDS)
  • Leading industry trade bodies

We are always pleased to help and are very flexible in our approach to support schools, pupils and their families. For more information, please contact:
