21 September 2022
It was a day of celebration and pride for Dumfries and Galloway College as a former student was honoured at the Office of the Secretary State for Scotland in London.
Richard Sagar MBE was presented with the College Fellowship of the Year by Alister Jack, Secretary of State for Scotland, and MP for Dumfries and Galloway.
College principal Joanna Campbell joined Mr Jack at Dover House in London for the presentation in recognition of Mr Sagar’s outstanding achievements.
Hailing from Langholm in the Scottish Borders, Mr Sagar began his career studying for his Electrical Installation SVQ Level 3 at Dumfries and Galloway College, winning the SECTT apprentice of the year competition in 2008, followed by success in both the Electro-technical Modern Apprenticeship Competition (eMac) and UK Skillelectric final during the same year… the first of many highlights to date.
In 2009: represented Team UK at Worldskills Calgary, competing against 32 international competitors, and winning Gold.
In 2010: established Sagar Smart Homes – a company focused on designing, delivering and supporting home automation and audio-visual systems
In 2012: recognised in the Queen’s birthday honour’s list with an MBE for his role as an ambassador to young people.
In 2015: voted by his industry peers to serve as a board member for the non-profit KNX UK association, charged with developing the awareness and adoption of the KNX standard, in the UK.
Principal Joanna Campbell said: “We would like to thank the Secretary of State for Scotland for inviting us to this special presentation at Dover House.”
“Richard continues to be an inspiration to our students and this latest accolade is hugely deserved.”
