New Course Launched to Help Supported Learners Prepare for Work

3 February 2022

Dumfries and Galloway College has launched a new course aimed at helping people with supported learning needs prepare for the world of work.

The Pathway to Employment National Qualification Level 3 course will be delivered in partnership with The Better Lives Partnership.

The Better Lives Partnership was established in 2016; it delivers services to young people and children affected by autism and additional barriers and seeks to improve the services available to them.

Learners on the course will benefit from gaining a wide range of skills and knowledge aimed at helping them prepare for the workplace.

Delivered at Dumfries and Galloway College’s Stranraer Campus, the course will also see learners identify their key strengths and build upon them.

This is a full-time programme with learners in class a minimum of two days per week.

The course is open to school leavers and adults looking to return to education or on an employment pathway; learners will need to demonstrate their ability to work independently and with others to qualify.

Applicants will also be expected to pass an interview process to enrol on the course.

Once they complete the programme, learners may move onto the Bridge to Employment with the Better Lives Partnership, Project Search at the college’s Dumfries campus, or any other service that offers support into employment or volunteering opportunities.

Those interested in applying are encouraged to contact Dumfries and Galloway College to find out more.

Principal Joanna Campbell said:

“I’m thrilled to see this new course coming to our college and send my thanks to our partners at the Better Lives Partnership for helping make it possible."

“We at Dumfries and Galloway College pride ourselves on our accessibility and wide range of programmes, which ensures that there is something for everyone."

“I look forward to welcoming our first cohort to this great new course and encourage everyone interested in it to get in touch.”
