We in the process of evaluating the admin areas of the ePortfolio and basic template for each of use by the students. We also plan to teach and guide students on how to make their content accessible when adding their work to their ePortfolio.

Technical information about the ePortfolio’s website’s accessibility

Dumfries and Galloway College is committed to making all of it’s Digital Services accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

Some of the content students upload and link to may not have been made accessible. This includes PDFs, Images and Videos.

We will encourage and guide students on how to make their content accessible to all when uploading to their ePortfolio.

Disproportionate burden

Student Portfolios may contain a large number of PDFs and other documents created in previous years. Where these are no longer being updated, we do not intend to recreate them in accessible versions as this would be a disproportionate burden. The accessibility regulations don’t require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

We will encourage Students to produce accessible versions before they upload documents.

Students may occasionally link to third party sources that are out-with our control.

Some Student Videos may not have been captioned. We will encourage students going forward to make sure they add captions to their videos.

Content that’s not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

Some of our PDFs and Word documents are essential to providing our services. For example, we have PDFs with information on how users can access our services, and forms published as Word documents. By December 2020, we plan to either fix these or replace them with accessible HTML pages.

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services.

Any new PDFs or Word documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Live video

We do not plan to add captions to live video streams because live video is exempt from meeting the accessibility regulations. We will add captions to recordings of live video streams.

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

Our accessibility roadmap shows how and when we plan to improve accessibility on this website.

We are working on replacing existing PDF information that is essential to our services with either an accessible HTML webpage or an accessible version of the PDF.

We will continue to review our ePortfolio service and make improvements where necessary.

We will provide guidance to students on how to make their content accessible to all users.
