Dumfries Campus Library

From enclosed quiet spaces to open group study facilities for a more relaxed working environment, the well-equipped and friendly library is designed to support a variety of approaches to learning. All Full Time, Part Time, Short Course and Open Learning students are able to access all library services and facilities. The library is a relaxed and friendly place to study, where experienced and helpful staff will welcome you.

During term time the library is open as follows (the library also provides an out of hours’ book return service):

  • Monday: 0800 – 1800
  • Tuesday: 0800 – 2100
  • Wednesday: 0800 – 1800
  • Thursday: 0800 – 1800
  • Friday: 0800 – 1700

Resources available include:

  • Internet access for all registered students
  • A wide range of books and access to the UWS collections in Ayr, Hamilton and Paisley
  • Videos and DVDs
  • Magazines and Newspapers
  • Electronic books and databases
  • Photocopying and colour printing

Learning Zones

“The learning zone provides a learning community where, in partnership with our friendly team, you can shape your learning to fulfil your individual needs."

Success in delivering this vision will depend on the co-operation of all those working within the Zone. We also depend on your feedback in helping us to improve the service and environment that we provide.

Where are the Learning Zones?

Learning Zones 1, 2, 3 and 4 are situated on the first floor adjacent to Reception area.
This is a quiet study area please do not use this as a through route to the library.
Room 0057 is also a Learning Zone.
There will always be a member of staff on duty in all Learning Zones to offer IT support and advice.

Stranraer Campus Library

The Library is located in the centre of the College, off the main reception area. It is well equipped and also offers a friendly and relaxed environment for study and access to computers. Services offered and information sources available include:

  • Books, Magazines and Newspapers
  • Internet access for all registered users
  • LearnNet (College Intranet for students)
  • Enquiry services
  • Inter-library loans

Flexible Access Centre

At Stranraer campus there is a multi-PC Flexible Access Centre, which allows you to use computers and learning materials on a drop-in / book-in basis. The centre staff are available to support you with using the computers, accessing learning resources and using the Internet for research. The staff are also trained in identifying customised learning courses to enable you to improve your IT and Internet skills.

Group sessions are often held within the Flexible Access Centre and members of the public are encouraged to enrol on these IT courses which range from Introductory levels in IT to the European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) and ECDL Advanced.

LearnNet

LearnNet is Dumfries & Galloway College's Student Intranet, which you access via a computer whether at College, at home or a learning centre. It can be used as a tool for: learning, finding information and for communication. On it you will find vital information relating to your course; course packs, library information, online databases and so much more. Through LearnNet you can access our library catalogue, even when you are not visiting one of our libraries. Our LearnNet system is constantly being developed to enhance the services we offer our students.
