Introduction

This nationally recognised qualification is designed for individuals who have a responsibility for fire safety in the workplace, including those designated as fire wardens or fire marshals. The FAA Level 2 Award in Fire Safety provides essential knowledge to help learners understand fire hazards, risk assessment procedures, and the principles of fire safety management. It is also ideal for any employee looking to enhance their awareness of fire safety and contribute to a safer working environment.

Course Content

The qualification consists of one unit: Fire Safety Principles. Learners will cover the following key areas:

  1. Understanding Fire Hazards and Risks

    • Causes of fire in the workplace
    • The fire triangle and products of combustion
    • Characteristics of fire and smoke spread

  2. Controlling Fire Risks in the Workplace

    • Identifying and controlling fire hazards
    • Means of escape and fire detection systems
    • Safe use of portable and fixed firefighting equipment

  3. Fire Safety Management

    • Employer and employee responsibilities
    • Conducting fire safety inspections
    • Stages of a fire risk assessment

  4. Role of the Fire Warden/Marshal

    • Daily responsibilities and emergency procedures
    • Fire safety briefings and communication
