Introduction

This online qualification is designed to equip individuals aspiring to work in the adult social care sector. It focuses on building knowledge of the roles and responsibilities of adult social care workers, as well as understanding the varied needs of vulnerable individuals who rely on care services.

This qualification meets the evolving requirements of the adult social care sector, providing learners with essential knowledge and practical skills to ensure high-quality care.

Entry Requirements

Suitable for those learners aged 16 or above and have a good level of communication skills.

You can only study one course at a time.

Course Content

This course is divided into nine manageable units:

  1. Principles of Communication in Adult Social Care Settings
    In this unit, you will explore the importance of communication in adult social care environments, focusing on confidentiality. You will learn strategies to overcome communication barriers and how to meet the needs, wishes, and preferences of the individuals in your care.

  2. Principles of Personal Development in Adult Social Care Settings
    This unit delves into the standards for best practices in adult social care roles and the significance of personal development plans in enhancing learning and growth. It also covers various learning activities that help develop an individual’s skills and knowledge.

  3. Principles of Diversity, Equality, and Inclusion in Adult Social Care Settings
    You will gain an understanding of the significance of diversity, equality, and inclusion in social care. The unit also covers how to work inclusively and how to access support, advice, and information on issues related to diversity, inclusion, and discrimination.

  4. Principles of Safeguarding and Protection in Health and Social Care
    Learn how to recognise the signs of abuse, respond to suspected abuse, minimise the risk of abuse, and identify unsafe practices. This unit also covers the national and local frameworks for safeguarding and protection.

  5. Introduction to Duty of Care in Health, Social Care, or Children’s and Young People’s Settings
    This unit will examine the concept of duty of care, the support available for addressing dilemmas, and how to manage complaints. You will also learn how to work according to agreed procedures when dealing with complaints.

  6. Understand the Role of the Social Care Worker
    Explore the various types of working relationships in social care settings, focusing on the importance of working in partnership with others. You will also learn about adhering to workplace policies and procedures to ensure you meet employer expectations.

  7. Understand Person-Centred Approaches in Adult Social Care Settings
    This unit will guide you through person-centred approaches in adult social care, covering the implementation of these approaches, the importance of consent in providing care, and how to support individuals in making informed decisions. You will also learn how to promote active participation and enhance well-being.

  8. Understand Health and Safety in Social Care Settings
    Explore key aspects of health and safety within social care settings, including roles and responsibilities, risk assessments, accident response procedures, infection control, and safe handling of equipment. You will also learn about managing hazardous substances, environmental safety, stress management, medication handling, and food safety in care environments.

  9. Understand How to Handle Information in Social Care Settings
    This unit focuses on the secure handling of information in social care settings and the various methods for accessing support and guidance on managing information securely.

Assessments

Learners will need to complete a series of tutor-marked assignments (typically one after each unit) as they move through the course. Each assignment will include a range of tasks and questions. These assignments are assessed by your tutor to track progress, and you will receive constructive feedback to support you in meeting the required standards for each unit.
