Introduction
It is essential to support mental health care workers so they can deliver ethical, person-centred care to their patients while also safeguarding their own physical and mental well-being.
This course will provide learners with an in-depth understanding of mental health and related issues, the principles guiding mental health care workers, approaches to care and management, the duty of care in adult health and social care, as well as the role of change and support in mental health care.
During your time with the Dumfries & Galloway College, support is always available whenever you need it. Each learner is paired with a dedicated personal tutor who will grade all assignments and provide comprehensive feedback for every submission

Suitable for those learners aged 16 or above and have a good level of communication skills.
You can only study one course at a time.

Course Content
Principles of the Mental Health Care Worker is split into 5 manageable units:
- Unit 1: Mental Health and Mental Health Issues
- Unit 2: Principles of the Mental Health Care Worker
- Unit 3: Approaches to Care and Management in Mental Health
- Unit 4: Understand Duty of Care in Adult Health and Social Care
- Unit 5: Understanding Change and Support in Relation to Mental Health
Assessments
Learners will need to complete a series of tutor-marked assignments (typically one after each unit) as they move through the course. Each assignment will include a range of tasks and questions. These assignments are assessed by your tutor to track progress, and you will receive constructive feedback to support you in meeting the required standards for each unit.
