Course Content

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  • Understand the anatomy of nails and common nail disorders.
  • Understand the importance of proper nail hygiene and sanitation.
  • Master professional manicures.
  • Create stunning gel polish finishes.
  • Enhance your client’s nails with extensions using tips and gel overlay.
  • Provide nail care services for personal or professional use.

Please noteBIAB is a trademarked product for an industry known nail brand. It is a soft-gel ‘builder in a bottle’, used as a strengthening overlay on natural nails – underneath a gel polish or as a stand-alone product. Our course does not mention BIAB as it is trademarked to that specific product and company. However, the products we use offer extremely similar services including overlay and extensions using BOB – a brush on builder!

Our course is divided into modules, each focusing on a specific aspect of nail care. You will find a balance between theoretical knowledge and hands-on practical training to ensure you’re well-prepared for any nail-related task.

You will develop skills in the application of the nail treatments listed below:

Manicure – SQA certificated.

Gel Polish – ABT accredited.

Tip and Gel Overlay (extensions) – SQA certificated.

Barbacide certificate.

The units may be subject to change.

Assessments

The course is a blend of both theory and practical. We are committed to helping you achieve your full potential; our teaching team employ a wide range of blended teaching methods to ensure that you are engaged at all levels of study and are supported in every aspect of your educational experience.
Assessments are ongoing and cover both theory and practical elements of the course.

You will be required to study the theory work explained and set by the Lecturer independently in your own time. Your attendance in college will therefore be focused on mastering your practical craft, this is to ensure you get ample time to iron out any initial teething issues and you feel comfortable and confident with the products and procedures.

You must be able to commit to 12 weeks of learning and assessment – there is little to no wiggle room for missing out on any in-house practical sessions so we can offer you the most training possible!

You will be required to source your own clients to practice on and for assessment. However, you will initially work on each other so don’t be nervous!

Progression

Educational progression would be moving onto learning the art of acrylics, nail art and electric e-filing. Side stepping into pedicure techniques would add another option to your treatment range – Coming Soon!

Career Prospects

Employment or self-employment as a Nail Technician working within a Salon, Spa, Mobile or even a cruise ship!

Certified qualifications to allow Carer’s and Activity Co-Ordinators to offer nail services within care homes, either covered by the care home’s insurance or their own public liability.
