The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Outdoor First Aid (RQF) is a regulated, nationally recognised qualification designed for individuals operating in unsupported outdoor environments. Whether you’re leading expeditions, instructing adventure sports, or supervising remote youth programmes, this 2-day course provides the advanced first aid skills needed when professional medical help may be hours away.

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum Age: 16 years

  • Physical Capability: Learners must be able to perform practical tasks such as CPR and casualty movement

  • No prior qualifications required – suitable for both beginners and experienced outdoor professionals

Course Content

Delivered over two immersive days, the course includes:

  • Managing multiple casualties in outdoor scenarios

  • Insulating and sheltering casualties in harsh environments

  • Cardiac arrest and CPR techniques

  • Severe bleeding, choking, and catastrophic blood loss

  • Extremes of temperature: hypothermia and heatstroke

  • Unconsciousness, fractures, head and spinal injuries

  • Drowning and burns management

  • Head-to-toe survey and secondary assessments

  • Poisoning, venomous bites, and medical conditions

  • Summoning emergency or rescue services effectively

Assessments

  • 9 Practical Assessments: Hands-on demonstrations of first aid techniques

  • 2 Theory Assessments: Multiple-choice question papers

  • Trainer Observation: Continuous feedback and support throughout the course
