Introduction
The City & Guilds 2382-26 Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations is designed for electricians and other electrical professionals who need to develop or update their knowledge of the requirements for electrical installations.
The qualification focuses on the requirements of BS 7671 – Requirements for Electrical Installations, commonly known as the IET Wiring Regulations. It provides an opportunity to develop your understanding of the regulations and how they apply to electrical installation work in practice.

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements, however, it is particularly suitable for:
- Electricians and electrical installers looking to update their knowledge
- Electrical contractors and supervisors who need to understand the latest wiring regulations
- Those responsible for the design, installation, inspection or maintenance of electrical installations
- Experienced electricians who need to update their knowledge following changes to BS 7671
- Individuals working towards a career or further qualifications within the electrical installation industry
The course is aimed at those with an existing understanding of electrical installation work. It is not intended as an introductory course for someone with no previous electrical knowledge or experience.
Candidates must be aged 16 or over.

During the course, you will develop your understanding of how BS 7671 applies to electrical installations and how to use the regulations effectively in your work.
You will cover areas including:
- Scope, object and fundamental principles of BS 7671
- The structure and application of the IET Wiring Regulations
- How to use the regulations and relevant terminology
- Assessment of general characteristics of electrical installations
- Classification of installations and consideration of external influences
- Protection for safety, including protection against electric shock
- Protection against thermal effects and overcurrent
- Protection against voltage disturbances and electromagnetic effects
- Requirements for isolation and switching
- Selection and erection of electrical equipment
- Requirements for earthing and protective conductors
- Inspection and testing requirements
- Requirements for special installations and locations
- Understanding the changes introduced through the latest Amendment 4:2026

Assessments
To achieve the City & Guilds 2382-26 Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installations, you will complete one online, open-book examination.
The assessment consists of:
- 60 multiple-choice questions
- 120 minutes to complete the examination
- Open-book, using the current BS 7671:2018 incorporating Amendment 4:2026
- Pass/Fail assessment
- A pass mark of approximately 60%
The questions cover the full range of the qualification, including the scope and principles of BS 7671, definitions, general characteristics of electrical installations, protection for safety, selection and erection of equipment, inspection and testing, special installations and locations, and Part 8 and the appendices.
The assessment is designed to test your ability to understand and apply the requirements of BS 7671, as well as your ability to navigate and use the regulations effectively.
You will need access to the current BS 7671:2018 (Amendment 4:2026) IET Wiring Regulations during the assessment.
