Introduction

This course gives you insight into the limitless world of animation. You will learn a range of animation skills and processes in order to develop your creativity and technical skills. The course also enables you to develop your creative thinking skills, imagination and digital ability.

Multicore Intel processor with 64-bit support

Operating system

Windows 10 version 1803, 1809 and later (64 bit)

RAM

8 GB of RAM (16 GB recommended)

Hard disk space

5 GB of available hard-disk space for installation; more free space required during installation (cannot install on removable flash storage devices)

 

Additional disk space for disk cache (10GB recommended)

Monitor resolution

1280x1024 display

GPU

OpenGL version 3.3 or higher (DirectX 12 with feature level 12_0 recommended)

Optional: Adobe-certified GPU card for GPU-accelerated ray-traced 3D renderer

Internet

Internet connection and registration are necessary for required software activation, validation of subscriptions, and access to online services.*

  • Drawing paper
  • Graphite pencil
  • Fineliner
  • Coloured pencils
  • Camera/smart phone to capture video
Scanner/camera to capture stills/copy artwork

Information and Interview Session Requirements

There are no requirements for an interview for this course but you should have a basic knowledge and an interest in the industry with a view to potentially looking to have a career within it if you would like to join this course.

Course Content

  • You will have the opportunity to develop and create animations using a range of media and techniques
  • You will be able to develop both your creative and technical skills
You will develop your understanding of animation through evaluating your own and the work of others.  Course content is subject to change

Assessments

Assessments are practical and written.

Progression

The course includes an NPA award. There will be progression opportunities into creative industries subjects such as Photography, Visual Communication (Graphic Design with Moving Image) or Art and Design.

Candidates can use the NPA to progress further in the field of animation and other related industries, whether it is web animation or complex character animation for the film and games industries.
