Digital Media Animation NPA @ SCQF Level 5

Introduction

During your course you will develop your knowledge and skills in the production of computer animation used in digital media.

You will gain fundamental knowledge and competence required in planning, creating and evaluating computer animations whilst also gaining practical skills in a range of software applications and tools used in industry.

You will learn about the principles of computer animation and the hardware and software requirements for computer animation.

The course also enables you to understand Digital Media to a more in-depth level, to evaluate your own work and the work of others and start your journey in Creative Practice.

3 hours per week with your tutor along with 1 hour a week directed independent study.

Entry Requirements

  • No formal academic qualifications are required
  • You will need to be able to demonstrate your ability to study at level 5
  • A keen interest in creative work

Course Content

  • You will have the opportunity to develop and create computer animation using a range of media and techniques
  • You will be able to develop both your creative and technical skills
  • You will develop your understanding of Digital Media through evaluating your own and the work of others
  • Complete units such as Introduction to Computer Animation, Computing: Animation Fundamentals and Digital Media: Moving Images

Assessments

Assessment methods may include individual and group projects, presentations, written assignments, and practical exercises,

The year is divided into 3 teaching blocks, so assessment is spread evenly throughout the course. There are opportunities for re-assessment throughout the year.

Progression

There will be progression opportunities into the full-time programme Foundation in Creative Industries @ SCQF Level 6 programme or Foundation Apprenticeship to Creative Practice @SCQF Level 6 (Senior Phase only).

Career Prospects

NPA’s can assist students in developing employability skills through the development of underpinning and specific skills but would not normally qualify for employment.

Further study could then lead to employment in a range of careers including self-employment, animation, web design, advertising, graphic design, film and TV.
