Hairdressing and Beauty SFW @ SCQF Level 4


The course provides a broad, experiential introduction to hairdressing and beauty. The focus is on experiencing the salon environment to learn about the different roles and responsibilities in hairdressing and beauty to begin to develop vocational skills and knowledge. Practical experience of general salon duties to support stylists and therapists and assist with customer care is included. The course places emphasis throughout all units on the employability skills and attitudes which will help to prepare learners for the workplace.

Entry Requirements

An interest in Hairdressing and Beauty.
An ability to study at SCQF level 4.

Information and Interview Session Requirements

There is no requirements for an interview for this course but you should have a basic knowledge and an interest in the industry with a view to potentially looking to have a career within it if you would like to join this course.

Course Content

During the course you will develop your understanding of hairdressing and beauty. You will develop a range of practical skills throughout the course.


Assessment will include some written assessment and practical assessment


Upon completion of the programme, you can progress to a range of full-time and part-time hairdressing and beauty courses at Dumfries & Galloway College.

Career Prospects


Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) in Hairdressing. 

Further study to level 5 hairdressing or Level 5 Beauty
