Introduction
The aim of this course is to give you the experience of a salon environment and the opportunity to learn about the different roles and responsibilities in beauty therapy and Hairdressing.
This course is aimed at senior phase schools who are still at school and are thinking of embarking on beauty or hairdressing career.
Completing the Level 5 units would be a fantastic transition from school into college and would support a young person get ready for employment within the beauty industry.
You will be learning beauty practical skills which includes facials, nails, and makeup. This will equip you with the skills and confidence to apply for beauty to develop employability skills and attitudes valued by employers.

Entry Requirements
There are no formal entry requirements but an interest in the industry would be favoured.
An interest in Hairdressing and Beauty.
An ability to study at SCQF level 4.
Information and Interview Session Requirements
There is no requirements for an interview for this course, but you should have a basic knowledge and an interest in the industry with a view to potentially looking to have a career within it if you would like to join this course.

Assessments
The course is a blend of both theory and practical subjects. Practical and written assessments will be ongoing throughout the year.
Assessment guidance includes a variety of conditions including open-book, folio, practical activities.
This is a full-time course with additional home study.
Progression
Upon completion of the programme, you can progress to a range of full-time and part-time hairdressing and beauty courses at Dumfries & Galloway College.
Career Prospects
Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs) in Hairdressing.
Further study to a full-time level 5 hairdressing or Level 5 Beauty
