Dumfries and Galloway College  and South of Scotland Enterprise unite to drive regional growth

Dumfries and Galloway College (DGC) and South of Scotland Enterprise (SOSE) have joined forces to help transform the region’s economic future.

The signing of a Strategic Partnership Agreement marks a major commitment to aligning education and skills with innovation to create sustainable growth across the South of Scotland.

The agreement sets out a framework for collaboration, which will unite the two organisations behind a shared vision for a forward-thinking and resilient regional economy.

By combining DGC’s expertise in education and skills development with SOSE’s economic development mandate, the partnership will increase opportunities for individuals and employers and also benefit entire communities.

The collaboration will focus on three key strategic priorities:

  • Delivering and developing skills for Net Zero – positioning the South of Scotland as a leader in Net Zero skills and supporting the workforce to meet future sustainability demands.
  • Supporting the implementation of a Higher Education Pathways Hub in Stranraer – widening access to higher education and fostering progression opportunities.
  • Developing skills and talent aligned to the Natural Capital Innovation Zone – building the region’s capacity for sustainable land use, biodiversity, and nature-based enterprise.

The partnership will see both organisations work closely with employers and other regional stakeholders to ensure their activities are locally relevant and responsive to emerging economic trends.

This joint effort directly supports national priorities, including Scotland’s Net Zero targets, skills reform, and the drive for inclusive economic development.

Douglas Dickson, Principal and CEO, Dumfries and Galloway College, said: “This partnership is a testament to our shared belief in the South of Scotland’s potential.

“By bringing together the college’s educational strengths with SOSE’s strategic reach, we can create a powerful engine for change. Our goal is to ensure our learners and local businesses are not only ready for the future economy, but they will be actively shaping it.”

Jane Morrison-Ross, Chief Executive, South of Scotland Enterprise, said: “A highly skilled and adaptable workforce is the bedrock of any prosperous region. This Strategic Partnership Agreement with Dumfries and Galloway College allows us to move beyond traditional collaboration.

“We are committing to co-designing and delivering the specific initiatives our region needs to thrive, ensuring inclusive growth and opportunity for all.”
