Unlock the power of professional 3D design with our hands-on SolidWorks 3D CAD evening course, delivered over 10 weeks. Whether you’re new to CAD or looking to build on existing skills, this practical course is designed to help you develop confidence and capability in both 2D and 3D computer-aided design.

Using SolidWorks – a leading commercial CAD software from Solid Solutions, learners will:

  • Create detailed 2D drawings including auxiliary and sectional views
  • Develop 3D solid models and assemblies using advanced features such as:
    • Boss Extrude & Boss Cut
    • Revolve Boss
    • Threading & Sectioning
    • Mating parts to build assemblies
    • Generating 2D drawings from 3D components

  • Learn how to save and convert files for 3D printing

Throughout the course, learners will work toward achieving the outcomes of SQA Unit F5H5 12, gaining a nationally recognised qualification while building practical, industry-relevant skills.

  • No formal entry requirements required — anyone can enrol
  • However, some background in engineering drawing (hand-drawn or digital) is beneficial

Course Aim

To develop learners’ knowledge, understanding, and practical skills in using SolidWorks software for both 2D and 3D CAD applications, including the creation of detailed drawings, solid models, assemblies, and preparation for 3D printing.

Learners will produce solid models and assemblies that include the following features:

  • Boss extrude
  • Boss cut
  • Revolve boss
  • Threading
  • Sections
  • Mating multiple parts together to create a finished assembly and Creating 2D drawings of all the components produced.

In addition to the above, candidates will save and convert files for 3D printing.

By the end of the course, learners will:

  • Demonstrate competence in creating 2D and 3D CAD drawings using SolidWorks
  • Produce solid models and assemblies with key features
  • Prepare and convert files for 3D printing
  • Meet the assessment criteria for SQA Unit F5H5 12
