2D & 3D Computer Aided Draughting (CAD) for Engineering – SolidWorks

Introduction

Using the software Solidworks – SOLIDWORKS 3D CAD Packages | Solid Solutions, this practical course is designed to allow candidates to develop knowledge, understanding and skills in 2D & 3D CAD. During the course candidates will develop the knowledge and skills to use this commercial CAD system to create details 2D drawings with auxiliary and sectional views and also develop skills for 3D CAD.

There are no formal entry criteria, however, an understanding of engineering drawing would be an advantage

Course Content

On this course, learners will work towards and achieve the outcomes listed in the attached SQA unit specification for unit F5H5 12. In addition to this, using the CAD software Solidworks, learners will also complete activities to gain a good understanding of 3D CAD.

Learners will produce solid models and assemblies that include the following features:

  • Boss extrude
  • Boss cut
  • Revolve boss
  • Threading
  • Sections
  • Mating multiple parts together to create a finished assembly and Creating 2D drawings of all the components produced.

In addition to the above, candidates will save and convert files for 3D printing

Assessments

Learners will be assessed throughout on the learning outcomes noted in the unit specification: national unit specification: general information (sqa.org.uk)

To access support with the fees you must register with DG Works. Just follow the link or use the QR code. If you are already registered, please contact your Employment Key Worker for next steps.

Once you have completed the registration form and your eligibility has been checked someone from DG Works (part of Dumfries and Galloway Council) will contact you to ask you to provide the following evidence:
