Award in Manual Handling – Principles and Practice

Introduction

This course is designed for anyone who regularly lifts, carries, pushes, or pulls as part of their job. It covers the essential principles of safe manual handling and helps reduce the risk of injury at work. Learners will gain practical skills and a clear understanding of how to handle loads safely and confidently.

The qualification follows Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance and helps employers meet their legal responsibilities around manual handling training.

Learners will complete one unit: Manual Handling Health and Safety (SCQF Unit Code: UC27 04)

    • Practical demonstrations and assessments
    • Best practice for lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling

Assessments

  • Ongoing practical assessment by the instructor
  • Final written test
  • Successful learners receive a lifetime qualification, though refresher training is recommended
