Introduction

Modern Apprenticeships are a great way of gaining skills, qualifications and experience and starting a career without having to study full-time. You can be earning whilst you are learning! This is an opportunity to work towards an industry recognised qualification whilst you are learning ‘on the job’ and it’s a great way to kick-start your career.

Childcare Learning, Development Skills and Knowledge are essential to the effective and efficient performance of child related organisations across the sector.

Once you have completed your Modern Apprenticeship you will have shown that you have the ability, the work skills and the determination to succeed.

Entry Requirements

You must be in full-time employment and aged 16 years or over.

We recommend that candidates should have achieved as a minimum standard grades at general level in English and Maths.

Candidates should be well presented, committed to the Modern Apprenticeship and able to complete.

Course Content

A specified level of Core Skills are required as part of the Modern Apprenticeship. As well as more specific learning around; Developing Your Practice through Reflection and Learning; Promote Effective Communication; Promote Health, Safety and Security in a Work Setting and Promote the Safeguarding of Children and Young People. You also get to choose some of your own learning, your assessor will help you consider the units which suit your needs best.

Assessments

Assessors attend the work place on a regular basis. Depending on the nature of each assessment to be carried out, the duration of how long the assessor will be with each candidate will vary on each visit. Assessors will assess competency and can advise and give guidance on any work that may be required.

Assessments take the form of written and practical assignments. Written assessments and practical assignments will be integrated throughout the duration of the programme. Written assessments are carried out by the candidate in their own time under the guidance of the assessor.

Assessors will attend your work place on a regular basis, the length of visit will vary depending on which assessment is being done. Assessors will assess your competency and advise and guide on any work that may be required.

Progression

Discuss with your assessor upon the completion of your SCQF Level 7 in Child Care as to whether this is an appropriate for you to progress onto the SCQF Level 9 in Child Care depending on job role, click here to find out more.

This Modern Apprenticeship is funded through Skills Development Scotland.
