Level 2 Certificate in the Principles of Care Planning (TQUK)

Introduction

This qualification is designed to deepen your understanding of how to effectively support individuals by addressing their unique preferences and needs in relation to their care and support. It focuses on equipping you with the essential skills to ensure that each person’s individual choices are respected and integrated into their care plan, fostering a person-centered approach.

Additionally, this course will expand your knowledge of nutrition and health within the context of health and social care settings. You will learn about the importance of proper nutrition in promoting well-being and how to tailor dietary support to meet the specific needs of individuals. Furthermore, you will gain practical insights into how to assist individuals in maintaining their personal hygiene, promoting their dignity and independence while ensuring their hygiene needs are effectively met.

During your time with the Dumfries & Galloway College, support is always available whenever you need it. Each learner is paired with a dedicated personal tutor who will grade all assignments and provide comprehensive feedback for every submission.

Entry Requirements

Suitable for those learners aged 19 or above and have a good level of communication skills.

When applying for this course you will be asked to supply a copy of your ID, which can be either a passport, driving licence, birth certificate or national identity card

You can only study one course at a time.

Course Content

Unit 1: Understanding Person-Centred Thinking and Planning
This unit focuses on developing your knowledge of the principles and practices behind person-centred thinking, planning, and reviews. You will explore how adopting a person-centred approach positively impacts individuals and their families. Additionally, the unit covers key legislation, policies, and guidance that support person-centred thinking and planning.

Unit 2: Care Planning for the Care Worker
In this unit, you will learn about the process of care planning in relation to your role. You will understand how to create and implement care plans effectively while considering how personal beliefs and preferences may influence the care planning process.

Unit 3: Understanding Nutrition and Hydration in Health and Social Care Settings
This unit will help you understand the vital role of nutrition and hydration in promoting overall health and well-being. You will study the fundamentals of a balanced diet, the significance of special dietary needs, and strategies to prevent malnutrition in health and social care environments.

Unit 4: Principles of Supporting an Individual to Maintain Personal Hygiene
In this unit, you will explore the importance of addressing personal hygiene with sensitivity and respect, ensuring that you maintain the dignity of individuals. You will also learn how to support individuals with personal hygiene while being mindful of their preferences and needs.

Unit 5: Understanding Continence Care
This unit aims to deepen your understanding of bodily waste functions and the causes of incontinence. You will learn how to promote continence and respect individual choices, as well as explore the various aids and facilities available to support individuals in managing their continence needs.

Unit 6: Principles of Supporting Sleep
In this unit, you will discover the significance of sleep for an individual’s health and well-being. You will gain insights into how to assist individuals in achieving a restful sleep and ensure the environment is conducive to their sleep needs.

Throughout this course, you will have access to high-quality e-learning resources that will guide you through each unit, ensuring you develop the knowledge and skills necessary to support individuals in a care setting.

Assessments

Learners will need to complete a series of tutor-marked assignments (typically one after each unit) as they move through the course. Each assignment will include a range of tasks and questions. These assignments are assessed by your tutor to track progress, and you will receive constructive feedback to support you in meeting the required standards for each unit.
