The CMI Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Leadership & Management is designed to provide aspiring and new managers with the key skills and knowledge necessary for effective leadership and management. This qualification is ideal for those who want to gain solid foundation in leadership principles and enhance their managerial capabilities.

301 – Principles of Management & Leadership
302 – Managing a Team to achieve results

Unit 302 – 23 hours

Delegates will be have approximately 3 months per unit for completion. Each unit will have an introductory session, 1 day (or equivalent) workshop and tutor sessions for support/guidance, marking and feedback.



Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are required to enroll in the CMI Level 3 Certificate in Principles of Leadership and Management. However, a good standard of literacy and numeracy is expected.
Ideally, you need to be working within an organisation or role where you can demonstrate skills and apply knowledge. Alternatively, you could draw on previous experience within an organisation.

Course Content

301 – Principles of Management & Leadership
This unit has been designed for learners who want to develop or sharpen their professional edge and enhance personal effectiveness. The unit focuses on the ways organisations operate, the application of management and leadership approaches and how these can positively impact on own role, lead improved performance and support teams, colleagues and customers. The aim of this unit is to introduce the foundations for managers, which will be developed throughout all level 3 units.

302 – Managing a Team to achieve results
The ability to manage teams, which are able to communicate effectively and overcome barriers to achievement, is a critical skill for any manager. High performing cohesive teams are created in an environment where there is a collective understanding of values, goals and objectives. This unit has been developed to support managers in understanding the nature of teams in the workplace, and how these can be managed to achieve results.


Assessment for each unit is based on written assignments, reflecting on practical work-based scenarios to ensure learning is applied effectively. There are no exams, making it a manageable way to gain a qualification while working.
