Sustained Transitions and Routes (STAR)

Introduction

Our Sustained Transitions and Routes (STAR) is a transformative personal development program designed to equip young people with the skills, confidence, and resources needed to thrive in education or within a workforce. Designed as a core element of our Lifeskills, Employability and Pathways (LEAP) area, STAR is the next step for those who have completed our 12 week PACE (Pathway for achievement, Confidence and Education) Programme or for those who need enhanced support to transition into employment or further education.

Duration

The programme will be delivered on a full-time hybrid delivery, three days per week with either placement on in-person college options.

Entry Requirements

  • Star is for you if you are unsure of your next steps or feel you may need support before applying for jobs or college.
  • Star is for you if you are currently on or have completed PACE or Princes trust courses.
  • Star is for you if an organisation that currently supports you may recommend STAR as a suitable next step

Course Content

STAR is an 18-week programme that supports young people by taking a holistic and personalised approach to learning through partnership working with schools, businesses and organisations as well as online learning, workshops and one-to-one support. Young people will also choose to complete a work placement or college experience to provide real-life experience to support and inform their next steps. With support, students will complete a personalised programme of units, options including

  • Communication skills for customer service
  • Self-awareness
  • Self in community
  • Basic first aid
  • Developing skills for employment
  • Journey to employment
  • Study skills
  • Numeracy
  • Study experience
  • These units will ensure students have the necessary skills to progress on their chosen pathway.

Assessments

Assessment approaches are varied and include practical observations of work/placements, portfolios of evidence, reflective accounts, projects and presentations.

Progression

The college has a number of enhanced supported programmes that help students towards their goals of employment, life skills or further education. Your course lecturer and transition coach within STAR can help create your personalised pathway and provide advice on suitable next steps.

Additional funding information

There is no cost for the course and depending on your age, students attending full time short courses can apply for a bursary or education maintenance allowance. Depending on circumstances, support may also be available with transport or other costs. The college has a Student Funding team that can help with your funding application.
