Beauty Care NC @ SCQF Level 6
Introduction
The beauty industry offers exciting career opportunities, and this course will provide you with the practical skills and detailed theoretical knowledge required for a wide variety of roles, and/or possible entry to higher level courses.
You will study a selection of the most popular beauty treatments, plus all the essential related subjects, required to achieve this qualification. Amongst other subjects you will study make-up, body massage, facials and a variety of popular nail treatments such as gel nail extensions. Work experience is also included, giving you a real insight into a variety of activities involved in the beauty industry.
On successful completion of this course, you will be awarded a Level 6 National Certificate Group Award in Beauty Care.

Materials
A kit and uniform is required for this course & will be provided by the college.
Students may be given the option to purchase an additional college approved kit for some specialist units.
Dress code
For practical class, the college approved uniform must be worn, with suitable footwear (details will be supplied).

Duration
Full Time Attendance 2 or 3 days per week. 1 year (36 weeks). Please note this may be subject to change. Additional hours for work experience attendance in the evening may be required.
Entry Requirements
Four National 5 qualifications at grade C or above preferably English and a Science subject; OR
NQ/NC qualification at SCQF level 5 in Beauty Care; OR
other equivalent qualifications or experience.
You are required to be 16 years of age by August 2022 to undertake this course.
Information and Interview Session Requirements
Once we have received your application you will be asked to attend an informal information and interview session.
Learners will be required to attend a face to face interview or a interview on teams video to further discuss your application. You'll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you're interested in this subject area.
Where COVID restrictions are in place we will invite you to either a video meeting or telephone discussion call, but remember to tell us all about yourself in your personal statement!

A variety of learning and teaching methods are used to deliver practical and theory-based subjects, in fully equipped treatment rooms, and IT enabled classrooms.
You will carry out practical work on a diverse range of clients, and will also be required to model for treatments yourself.
Assessment methods
The course utilises a variety of assessment methods, including practical observation, case study compilation, research projects and closed book theory papers.
Progression
Successful students can apply to progress to HNC Beauty Therapy, HNC Complementary Therapies and/or HNC Fashion Make Up.

This course gives opportunities to expand skills and knowledge within related and optional topics within your disciplines. The course will give you structure and flexibility. It is structured to enable you to develop generic transferrable skills and recognises existing skills and competency allowing you to take charge of your own learning and development to allow progression and achievement. Opportunities are available for external industrial training from prestigious brands such as Demalogica and Eve Taylor. Work experience opportunities are available within local spas and salons.
The department has strong links with industry and you will be encouraged to take up salon work during your course to gain industry insight and knowledge.
