Students Invited to Take the Plunge into Watersports

Dumfries and Galloway College has announced a new watersports course, beginning in August.

The new course, Watersports SCQF Level 5, will allow students to gain a variety of skills and experience and emerge from the programme with a valuable qualification.

Watersports Level 5 has been developed through a partnership between the Stranraer Water Sports Association and Dumfries and Galloway College.

Delivery of the new course will take place in two locations, with students studying for two hours per week at the college’s Stranraer Campus and also spending one full day per week at the Stranraer Watersports Association.

Also offered by the exciting new course is the opportunity to learn skills in volunteering, employability, customer service, and sporting events.

Successful students on the course will be able to progress into full-time study at college.

Those on the course will be led by experienced and qualified staff through a range of practical and theory-based activities before undertaking practical and written assessments.

The course is ideal for those looking to begin careers in leisure, or sports coaching.

Students wishing to join this course will be required to successfully complete an interview and must be available for 10 weeks beginning 22 August 2022.

Principal Joanna Campbell said:

“I’m delighted to see this new and innovative course being added to our already extensive collection of sports subjects.

“I’d also like to personally thank the Stranraer Water Sports Association for their support and guidance in delivering this course.

“Furthermore, I would like to encourage anyone who is interested in studying Watersports with us to get in touch to find out more.”
