Premium Placement for Hospitality Students

A team of hospitality students from Dumfries and Galloway College’s Stranraer Campus have completed a successful work experience placement with a leading local venue.

Laggan, one of the South of Scotland’s premier food, drink, and hospitality venues, welcomed the students and provided them with real-world experience to complement their studies.

While on placement, the students worked in housekeeping, front of house, kitchen, and wedding services roles, in order to gain as much experience as possible in the types of jobs they hope to gain after graduation.

All students on the placement programme are currently studying towards Level 5 or 6 in Hospitality and their work experience counts towards their qualifications.

Dumfries and Galloway College are delighted to have Laggan as a partner and is extremely grateful to the entire team at their wonderful venue for taking their students on for three full working days.

We look forward to continuing the positive working relationship that has been created between the college and Laggan into the future.

Chef Lecturer, Carole McShane, who organised the placement planning said:

“I am delighted that our students have had the opportunity to learn such valuable skills during this excellent placement programme.”

“Laggan is a wonderful venue that routinely creates wonderful guest experiences and has created a professional, supportive, and encouraging working environment.”

“By working together, I’m confident that Laggan and Dumfries and Galloway College can train many skilled hospitality professionals for years to come.”

Duncan McConachie, Managing Director at Laggan, said:

“All the students we worked with are a credit to the college and I’m delighted to say that I would have offered each of them a job with us.”

“They were professional, interested, and, most importantly, were excellent communicators.”

“Well done to all the students who were involved; you were fantastic!”

Principal Joanna Campbell, said:

“As a college, our partners are vitally important to what we do and I’m delighted to see this relationship with Laggan flourishing.”

“Everyone in our local area knows that Laggan is synonymous with quality hospitality and is therefore a great place for our students to learn and sharpen their skills.”

“I’d like to thank Laggan for working to positively with our students and look forward to continuing to work with them for years to come.”
