Introduction

This Multi Skills hairdressing course will provide you with hands-on skills and theoretical knowledge of all aspects of hairdressing. You’ll learn a wide range of hairdressing techniques, gaining practical experience along the way.

If you want to pursue a career in hairdressing, this course can help you master the basic skills you’ll need. You will have the chance to take part in a wide range of activities including competitions, presentations, workshops and demonstrations.

The department has strong links with industry, work experience is an essential part of the course, and as such, you will need to find a work placement at a hairdressing salon one day per week.

Entry Requirements

Minimum entry requirements

Two National 4 qualifications, SCQF Level 4 English or ESOL Level 4; OR

other equivalent qualifications or experience.

You are required to be 16 years of age by August 2024 to undertake this course.

Information and Interview Session Requirements

Once we have received your application you will be asked to attend an informal information and interview session.

Learners will be required to attend a face-to-face interview or an interview on teams’ video to further discuss your application. You’ll be invited for a group and/or individual interview where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you’re interested in this subject area.

This is a key aspect of the application process. You must confirm your attendance should you be offered an appointment.

During the information and interview session, we will ensure the entry requirements and your aspirations and career plan are appropriate for the course and the level of course you have applied for. It is therefore important that you prepare well for this.

You will study:

Shampoo, Condition and Scalp Massage

Blow Drying Techniques

Setting and Winding Techniques for Hair

Ladies Hairdressing: Basic Cutting Categories

How to Mix, Apply and Remove Hair Colour

Work experience is an essential part of the course, so you’ll be required to be in work placement in a hairdressing salon one day a week for the full duration of your course.

Assessments

The course is a blend of both theory and practical subjects. Committed to helping you achieve your full potential; the teaching team employ a wide range of blended teaching methods to ensure that you are engaged at all levels of study and are supported in every aspect of your educational experience.

Assessments are ongoing and cover both theory and practical elements of the course. Assessment guidance includes a variety of conditions including open-book, folio, practical activities.

This is a full-time course with additional home study.

This course gives opportunities to expand skills and knowledge within related and optional topics within your disciplines. The course will give you structure and flexibility. It is structured to enable you to develop generic transferrable skills and recognises existing skills and competency allowing you to take charge of your own learning and development to allow progression and achievement. Opportunities are available for external industrial training from prestigious brands such as Wella. Work experience opportunities are available within local spas and salons.

The department has strong links with industry, and you will be encouraged to take up salon work during your course to gain industry insight and knowledge.
