Introduction

The CMI Level 3 Diploma in First Line Management and Leadership is designed for aspiring and practising first-line managers who want to develop their management and leadership knowledge, skills and confidence in greater depth.

This comprehensive qualification allows you to explore a range of key areas within first-line management and leadership, helping you develop the skills needed to lead and support teams, communicate effectively, manage performance and contribute to organisational success.

Delivered through flexible remote learning, the qualification allows you to study around your work and other commitments. You’ll have access to online learning materials, dedicated tutor support and personalised one-to-one sessions throughout your studies.

Your tutor will discuss your current role, experience and career goals with you and help identify the most appropriate units for your qualification. This allows you to focus your learning on areas that are relevant to your development and can be applied in your workplace.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for the CMI Level 3 Diploma in First Line Management and Leadership.

The qualification is suitable for aspiring and practising first-line managers, team leaders and supervisors who want to develop their management and leadership knowledge, skills and confidence.

You do not need to hold a previous management qualification. However, learners should have sufficient ability to undertake Level 3 learning and assessment and be able to commit to the study and assessment requirements of the Diploma.

As part of your enrolment, your tutor will discuss your current role, experience and development goals to ensure the qualification and selected units are appropriate for your needs.

Course Content

The CMI Level 3 Diploma in First Line Management and Leadership allows you to build a broad range of management and leadership skills through a choice of units.

Our default starting point is:

  • Unit 330 – Organisational Awareness for First Line Managers
  • Unit 331 – Approaches to Managing and Leading People and Teams

These units provide a strong foundation in first-line management, helping you understand your role within an organisation and develop effective approaches to managing and leading people and teams.

As the Diploma requires you to complete a minimum of four units, your tutor will discuss your current role, experience and career goals with you and help you select the most appropriate additional units for your qualification. This means your learning can be tailored to the areas of management and leadership that are most relevant to you and your career development.

Unit 332 – Stakeholder Communication for First Line Managers
Develop effective communication skills and understand how to build positive relationships with stakeholders.

Unit 333 – Delivering Organisational Activities
Develop your ability to plan, organise and deliver activities that contribute to organisational objectives.

Unit 334 – Contributing to the Management of Change
Explore the role of the first-line manager in supporting and contributing to organisational change.

Unit 335 – Contributing to the Management of a Project
Develop your understanding of project management and how you can contribute effectively to workplace projects.

Unit 336 – Managing Problems and Decision Making
Develop skills in identifying problems, making informed decisions and finding effective solutions.

Unit 337 – Professional Development as a First Line Manager
Focus on your own professional development and identify opportunities to strengthen your management and leadership capabilities.

Unit 338 – Budgeting for First Line Managers
Develop your understanding of budgeting and the role first-line managers can play in managing financial resources.

Unit 339 – Technology for First Line Managers
Explore how technology can support effective management, communication and organisational activities.

Unit 340 – Supporting People Throughout the Employee Life Cycle
Develop your understanding of how first-line managers support employees throughout different stages of their employment.

Unit 306 – Principles of Equality, Diversity and Inclusive Working Practice
Develop your understanding of equality, diversity and inclusive working practices and their importance within the workplace.

Assessments
