Pre-Apprenticeship Electrical Engineering (NQ) @ SCQF Level 5

Introduction

This is a nationally recognised certificate in electrical engineering. It should be viewed as the first year of a two-year course to allow you to obtain the level 6 National Certificate Program.

If you are looking to be employed within the electrical engineering sector, then this is an excellent starting point as a stepping stone towards being a technician or an electrical apprentice.

Entry Requirements

One of the following: 4 National 4s, 4 Standard Grades at 4 or above or 4 Intermediate 1s. Or successful completion of the Introduction to Engineering and Renewable Energy course.

Entry may still be possible for mature students depending on prior skills and knowledge.

You will be required to attend an Information and Interview Session with the course tutor prior to being offered a place on the course and industry accredited.

If you are currently studying at the College, you will also require a positive Progressing Learner Reference.

Information and Interview Session Requirements

If selected, you will be asked to attend an in-person selection session where you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your skills, experience, enthusiasm and suitability for this course.

Please be aware that there are only 2 selection sessions available. We strongly recommend that you attend the first session as offers will be made from the session and this may reduce the places available for the second session.

You must attend one to be able to be considered for a place on the course.

We will ensure the entry requirements, and your aspirations and career plan are appropriate for the course and the level of course you have applied for.

Course Content

This course will equip you with electrical engineering and renewable energy skills. You will gain an understanding of how electrical circuits work, the variety of components and systems that you may encounter in the electrical industry together with the practical skills to help you gain work in the electrical, engineering or renewables sector. The course will include a project on domestic renewable systems that will introduce the skills and knowledge of a domestic renewable system.

Assessments

Assessments can be practical in workshops, reports, e-learning, online as well as written assessment.

Progression

This course allows for progression onto the National Certificate in Electrical Engineering at SCQF level 6 or Engineering Systems and Wind Turbine Training NC at SCQF Level 6.

Career Prospects

The course is aimed at providing opportunities for successful candidates to progress into an Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship or other Engineering sectors.
