Introduction

Modern Apprenticeships are a great way of gaining skills, qualifications and experience and starting a career without having to study full-time. You can be earning whilst you are learning! This is an opportunity to work towards an industry recognised qualification whilst you are learning ‘on the job’ and it’s a great way to kick-start your career.

Engineering skills are essential to the effective and efficient performance of organisations across the sector and once you have completed your Modern Apprenticeship you will have shown that you have the ability, work skills and the determination to succeed. The course content will vary depending on which framework you choose, eg Fabrication and Welding, Plate Work or Mechanical.

The Level 3 work-based portfolio will commence in year 2 of your Modern Apprenticeship, which is achieved solely in the work place.

Assessors will attend the work place on a regular basis. Depending on the nature of each assessment to be carried out, the duration of how long the assessor will be with each candidate will vary on each visit. Assessors will assess competency and can advise and guide on any work that may be required. A specified level of Core Skills are required as part of the Modern Apprenticeship.
