Introduction

CMI Level 3 Principles of Management & Leadership is aimed at practising or aspiring managers who supervise or manage a team who set and monitor goals and objectives by providing instruction, direction and guidance and will supervise or manage a team to achieve clearly defined outcomes. Day to day opertaional and prject activities are a key part of their role – ideal for supervisors or first line managers.

To achieve the Level 3 Award Principles of Management & Leadership, you will undertake unit 301 – Principles of Management & Leadership.

This unit has been designed for learners who want to develop or sharpen their professional edge and enhance personal effectiveness. The unit focuses on the ways organisations operate, the application of management and leadership approaches and how these can positively impact on own role, lead improved performance and support teams, colleagues and customers. The aim of this unit is to introduce the foundations for managers, which will be developed throughout all level 3 units.

This course has a study perior or 3 months with 70 hours of Total Uniy Time (TUT).

1 Day workshop (Face to Face or Virtual delivery), followed by self study and a one-to-one with Management Instructor.

There are no formal entry requirements, however students will be ideally working within an organisation or role where they are able to apply knowledge and demonstrate skills.

1.4 Outline the purpose of organisational strategies
2.1 Summarise the role of the manager
2.2 Explan the role of the manager in communicating organisational strategy to individuals and teams
2.3 Explain levels of accountability aauthority in the management role
2.4 outline the legal and organisational frameworks which apply to the management role
3.1 Explain the differences between management and leadership
3.2 Summarise recognised management and leadrship approaches
3.3 Explain how management and leadership approaches can be adapted in different work based situation
4.1 Explain the knowledge and skills required to be an effective manager
4.2 Summarise the behaviours required to be an effective manager
4.3 Explain the impact of knowledge, skills and behaviours on the team, colleagues and customers

Assessments

Candidates will be provided with access to the ManagementDirect, CMI’s online resource portal. Each unit has an assessment workbook to work through, and contains a series of tasks which are clearly refrenced to relevant assessment criteria and indicative content.
