Entry Requirements

You must be in full-time employment and aged 16 years or over.

Course Content

Depending on the candidates’ current qualifications they may NOT be required to attend College, for example if a College full-time Motor Vehicle Course has been completed and achieved at College.

If the candidate is required to achieve the SCQF Level 5 (underpinning knowledge) in Motor Vehicle then some College attendance will be required to be able to achieve this element of the Modern Apprenticeship.

Alongside any required College attendance an assessor will attend the work place on a regular basis. Depending on the nature of each assessment to be carried out, the duration of how long the assessor will be with each candidate will vary on each visit.

The course is structured around a selection of both knowledge and skill based practical Motor Vehicle Engineering Units with a core skills programme.

The Course involves the study of light vehicle construction and rountine maintenance, operation principles of light vehicle engines, typres, brakes, steering and suspension systems, transmission systems and electrical and electronic systems within structured practical workshop and classroom theory.

Assessments take the form of written and practical work to be included in a portfolio, these are integrated throughout the length of the programme. Written assessments are carried out by the candidate in their own time, under the guidance of the assessor. Candidates will also be required to sit on-line tests upon the completion of each unit whilst attending College.

Assessors will assess competency and can give advise and guidance on any work that may be required to assist with their portfolio. A specified level of Core Skills are required as part of the Modern Apprenticeship.

Once an SCQF Level 5 has been achieved, progression can be made on to SCQF level 7 which can be completed in 1 year.
