What is Business, Management and Accounting?

Business, Management, and Accounting are all key parts of how businesses are run today. As a major employer in the South of Scotland, Dumfries and Galloway College knows only too well the challenges that businesses today face, particularly with the rapid changes and developments across many industries.

Studying Business, Management, and Accounting, you will be taught subjects with new teaching methods and technologies to include a broad scope of topics. These areas can include accounting, auditing, and team leadership and management.

This will give you the opportunity to gain a new qualification while exploring and learning how organisations are run and how to prepare yourself to start your own business if you have an entrepreneurial spirit.  You will gain the knowledge and expertise to take on a wide range of career opportunities or carry on to future studies.

Career paths with a qualification in Business, Management, and Accounting.

  • Business Advisors – Provide specialist information to support and coach businesses to see the potential in improving their operations. This could include financial advice, scaling up and growing, changing the business model completely, or all of the above. Business Advisors need good communication with a creative side to come up with innovative ideas to solve any issue. This role can be worked remotely, be employed, or be self-employed. Average starting salaries are between £20,000 - £25,000
  • Management Accountants – Work within companies to manage their finances. Often, they are researching and analysing the business’s financial accounts including spending, payroll, and profits. Management Accountants then use their own initiative to develop financial policies and systems based on evidence collected and present this to the business. Average starting salary - £25,000 - £30,000
  • Business Administrators – have excellent organisation skills to provide administration support to businesses and consumers. Exceptional people skills, they manage the company’s data and reports to provide the information to assist staff and customers. Business Administrators need the knowledge of bookkeeping with the ability to use admin software and office technology. Business Administrators are most likely employed by a company, can work remotely but often in an office. Average starting salary £17,000 - £24,000
  • Corporate Investment Bankers - Provide companies a variety of financial services for every type of business. They must have exceptional numerical and analytical skills to be able to manage corporate, financial prospects and be strategic. These abilities are used in acquisitions, mergers, and lending to name a few.  Corporate Investment Bankers must have good knowledge of the financial market to advise decisions to help guide the business in their goals. Average starting salary £30,000 - £40,000
  • Business Development Managers – Are people who find business opportunities for companies. They are confident people who use their customer service skills to sell products and services to consumers or other businesses. Business Development Managers can develop business and marketing strategies, and some are able draw up contracts with clients. Able to work remotely, often employed by a company. Average starting salary £22,000 - £25,000
