Introduction

Are you in S6 and considering a degree in Computing?

Dumfries & Galloway College in partnership with University of West of Scotland is offering you the opportunity to start your degree programme whilst in school and get you on the pathway to your degree.

This programme will help you prepare for university and start your learning on your degree pathway.

On successful completion of the Academy course, you will gain automatic entry into the first year of a Cyber Degree, delivered at DGC in partnership with UWS.

Entry Requirements

  • One Higher at C or above in appropriate academic subjects or equivalent
  • In addition, all applicants should have an SQA Numeracy Core Skill profile (or equivalent) at level 5 or above OR, National 5/Int 2 Mathematics at grade C or above.
  • If you are currently studying at the College, you will also require a positive Progressing Learner Reference.

Information and Interview Session Requirements

You’ll be invited to an interview session where you can find out more about the course and tell us why you’re interested in this subject area.

You will also be required to complete a skills test to ensure that you can work at the appropriate level.

Studying full time is a major commitment and reviewing your skills test will help our specialist staff to give you the best advice on which level of study and course is right for you. We will make an offer based on your application form, interview and skills test.

Course Content

You will complete units such as Step Up to University along with units such as Data Security or Computing Programming

Assessments

Assessments are undertaken by continual assessments throughout the year.

Progression

Successful completion will allow direct entry into HNC Cyber Security which is the first year of degree before moving on to year two.

The Degree award will prepare candidates for entry to a wide range of positions including:

Data Protection Manager, Ethical Hacker, Forensics Engineer, Information Security Architect, Information Systems Auditor, Penetration Tester, Security Analyst, Security Incident Response Team Member, Security Software Developer, Virus Technician, Vulnerability Assessor.
